We did this for the 4th in place of fireworks this year since the heat here in the mid west was so bad you were not allowed to purchase. These are great projects to do about anytime of year to your discretion.

| Things needed for firefly jar project: lidded bottle or jar that you do not need for anything else, assorted glow sticks, and glitter of your choosing. Simple |
- The first Picture above is an example picture from Pinterest. This went to a spam sites,so I will not give a link for credit to the blog for it. The "pin" on Pinterest had directions there (cannot pin this now because site is spam) and they actually worked so I still suggest doing it. .
Gather your jar, break open the glow sticks (be careful to supervise, maybe use gloves and keep the stuff from spilling except in jar. I let my kids do it themselves but they are older. Also I do not know what this might do to clothing so wear old duds.)Pour the glow goop out of stick(s)into the jar(s)and add glitter. Put lid on tight and shake. Now find a dark place and enjoy the fun. We did this in the day and our bathroom is dark without the lights on, but this would work great at night time for outside when warm.
I was planning on posting all our projects, but the post turned longer than expected so I will continue this post with other projects in the next few days.
As an extra we did not look up the scientific stuff on this one, but I am sure it would be interesting. If it had gone to a site it may have been included so if you want to try to do that let us know what you found on it.
